The purpose of the meeting was for residents of Forgewood and partner organisations to consider a number of issues now that the housing regeneration proposals for the Forgewood area are moving closer to implementation. Some of the issues discussed on the day included future governance and liaison arrangements for community groups in the area and the potential to develop new projects across the estate. The meeting was attended by 30 residents and partners including 2 pupils from Braidhurst High School, Forgewood who live on the estate. There were four presentations throughout the day covering the following:- The Story So Far Jonathan Smith, Regeneration Manager, North Lanarkshire Council Governance Implications on Owning a Community Asset John Mulholland, Director, Bridges Housing Association Developing a Community Asset Mark Hilton, Consultant Examples of Community Ownership John Duncan, Queens Cross Workspace Discussions took place following the presentations where residents and partners considered the following:- What is the definition of Community Ownership of Assets? How do you acquire these Assets? What are the Governance implications arising from the ownership of Assets? How they are managed and by whom? What are the asset Management implications in terms of procurement, capital and funding and maintenance? The current Community facilities in Forgewood. The services currently provided from the facilities. Communications. Local priorities in the Forgewood area. Multi cultural integration. Community cohesion. The meeting raised awareness of community groups owning assets and gave both residents and partners the opportunity to discuss Community Regeneration in the Forgewood area. The meeting ended positively with agreement from those present to identify delivery opportunities and funding avenues to regenerate the neighbourhood and improve the confidence and skills of residents in the area. It was agreed that Jonathan, Cathy and Alex should take the matter forward at this point. Following on from the meeting a proposal has been made to initiate a further funding application to the Scottish Community Foundation through their Investing in Ideas fund for approximately Ѓ50,000 over a 2 year period. The fund supports creative and innovative ideas that develop local talent, assets and resources for community.
