Participatory Budget - Community Wellbeing Initiative
Some month's back we highlighted an exciting new initiative that will result in £55K being spent projects that will improve community safety whilst further enhancing the physical aspect of the estate.
Forgewood Community Council together with our chums at the Motherwell Community Forum was only too happy to sign up to support the initiative, originally referred to as Participatory Budgeting but now rebadged as the Community Wellbeing Initiative.
The key difference to this initiative is that the short list of projects will be drawn up by a representative from the community and perhaps more importantly any decisions on which of these options should be given the green light will be left to the wider community to decide.
A group of local residents, supported by officers, from the Council's CLAD, Chief Executive's Office and one of the two remaining Community Engagement Officers for NL, have done sterling work driving this most worthwhile of initiative forward in recent months.
As part of the process, the group are inviting residents from the estate to join them on walkabouts of the area the aim being to identify areas of common concern and that might find their way on to the final short list. Details of the walkabouts can be found on the poster promoting the event.
Don't worry if you cannot make it along to any of the proposed walkabouts a form to allow you to contribute to the discussion is included with the Poster which you can view by clicking here.
