Been interested in renting your own allotment site? Or been keen to escape into your own potting shed? If you’ve answered YES to any of the above, then you will be interested to see the designs for a proposed new allotment site on the Greenlink at the end of Braidhurst Street. The designs will be on display at a community meeting being held on Wednesday 30th May at 6.30pm at Dalziel St. Andrew’s Church Hall. Yes there was trouble, but there were also characters that made the area something uniquely different and special. I had a great selection of pals. There was always someone out playing, and plenty to do with all that open space. I remember rounders being a big event on the junction of Talisman and Dalriada. The rope swings down the gully that was always covered in bluebells and fern. The nine arches. 3 swing parks ,a community centre, with a whole array of activities for all ages to join in, e.g. dancing, judo, jumble sales, etc. and were most kids had there parties , attended by half the estate . Everybody knew everybody else. Hiding because you didn’t want to go in was a nightmare. Decorum didn’t exist in Forgewood. If your parents hung out the window and shouted for you, it started a chain reaction of the side windows opening, to see if you were there. It had no hiding place. And shouts for you echoed from Fife Drive over to the Bellshill Road, you couldn’t win. I have a million other stories and recollections from my youth in Forgie, and no place I ever live in, will better or equal it. I for one am very proud to have been born a Scot from Forgewood in Motherwell and I'm planning a visit back soon; so if you see me clicking my wee camera say hello ,and welcome me back , because my heart belongs there , its still my home." >> Back to Top of Page EventsIf you would like to comment on the content of this section or have something to add then please contact us, we would like to hear from you. |
