Youth

Welcome!
All young people aged 12 -26.
Here you'll find the news, events, features, competitions and special offers for the lovely "sunny" area of North Lanarkshire, and the whole of Scotland:-

Young Scot
The World Congress of Youth
Scotland 2005
The World Congress of Youth is taking place in Stirling from Saturday 30th of July until 8th of August this year.

The 3rd World Youth Congress will bring 600 of the worlds most dynamic young activists in the field of sustainable development to Scotland from 120 different countries (including 100 from the UK).
The congress offers a unique opportunity to meet and work alongside young people who are really doing things and going places.

This event sets a new standard for international youth events, and will be the largest and most inspirational gathering of its kind for young people taking place anywhere in the world in 2005.

There is a strong role at the Congress for young journalists, cultural performers (e.g. dancers, actors, film makers, musicians), as well as for those with an interest in sustainable development, but less personal experience in this area.

Delegates will join forces with young Scots to undertake hands-on community action projects across Scotland, and will help shape international policy by documenting and showing governments what young people are doing to achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals.

Finally, we aim to give every delegate an amazing time in Scotland - one that they will never forget!
We are looking for as many young people who have been active with their communities to apply to come to the congress.
This can be done via the Scotland 2005 website (http://www.scotland2005.com). We would like as many young people from the UK and in particular Scotland to apply.
For more information, please click on the World Youth Congress Website http://www.scotland2005.org

Forgewood Community Development Trust (FCDT)

Forgewood Wider Action Group (FWAG) is pleased to announce the establishment of the Forgewood Community Development Trust (FCDT.)

The main aim of the Trust is to improve the economic, social, cultural and environmental well being of all residents, across all tenures, in Forgewood.

The Trust, was duly incorporated on 30 March 2004. Ours is an independent, community based and community led organisation. Any surplus monies are to be reinvested back in the area which we serve.

Forgewood has undergone a remarkable Physical and Environmental transformation over the past ten years or so. The properties across all tenures, now boast features, such as, central heating, double glazing, security entrancing, and off road car parking to name but a few.

The Regeneration Programme has brought about many changes in Forgewood; none more so than in the pattern of tenure. A good number of properties are now owner occupied and/or fall within the private rented sector. Nonetheless; the Social Rented Sector, represented in the main by North Lanarkshire Council, Forgewood Housing Co-op and Lanarkshire Housing Association, retains a strong presence in the area.

The Trust, seeks to build on the success of the Physical Regeneration Programme. We shall do this by assessing the needs of all our Community. Enabling our residents to tap into and make best use of their talents by assisting them to link up to the learning/job opportunities that are available to them. In so doing , we hope to create an enterprise culture in our Community.

Further details of the work of FCDT and how you can contact us will appear here, soon.
