Forgewood Community Council

All change Ward 3 - All Hail Motherwell North

Nothing says more about the socio-economic dynamic of North Lanarkshire than the new boundary for Motherwell North; taking in as it does Forgewood, North Motherwell, Braedale, Ladywell, Greenacres, Airbles, and including Strathclyde Park. For a detailed map of the area visit Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland http://www.lgbc-scotland.gov.uk

The newly elected Councillors for this Motherwell North are Annette Ward, Michael Ross and Paul Kelly. In time we hope to have a link to a brief statement from each.

Motherwell North is blessed with some truly glorious topography taking in the Calder Valley, Holm Forge Woods, Corby Craig and not forgetting 2000 years of history symbolised by the Roman Bridge and Roman Bath House located in Strathclyde Park.

The Topography aside it is the diversity of the various communities that comprise Motherwell North that sets this new ward apart from our near neighbours. Although, no doubt our near neighbours would argue likewise.

We hope to add to this section as the year unfolds. Our aim is to create links to the groups operating the length and breadth of Motherwell North, no main feat this as there are a myriad of local groups operating throughout the area; each as individual as the area and/or group that they purport to represent.

The real strength of the various groups operating throughout the area lies in their independence as much as the breadth of the services and issues that they are concerned with. It will be a real challenge to create systems of communication that will support these groups and help them develop; whilst recognising and ensuring that they continue to operate within their own field and independently where preferred.

Community Council
Ward 3 Forgewood, is located in the midst of the Calder Valley, surrounded by stunning scenery, a short walk from Motherwell town centre and close to all local amenities, for example The Aquatec and Strathclyde Country Park.

Transport
North Lanarkshire is the hub of Scotland's transport network and Motherwell North is itself at the centre of this hub. Consequently, the area is well served by Public Transport.

Rail :: The main train station linking the West to the East and England is only a few minutes away from any of the various areas that make up the new ward.

Road ::The M74 and M8 motorways linking the area to Glasgow and Edinburgh are only a very short drive away and therefore make this an ideal location for those commuters to set up home here.

Schools
The area is served by excellent schools Muir Street Primary and Braidhurst High School (a Charter Mark school, one of only three Sports Comprehensives in the country) are sited within our boundary. There are also separate Childcare Nursery's and after school services located here. Our Lady of Good Aid Primary and Our Lady's High School are the other schools within the Ward 3 catchment area.

More news
The golfers among you will be pleased to learn that there are many excellent public and municipal courses within easy reach of the area. Indeed, Colville Park and Bellshill Golf Courses are in fact within easy walking distance of the estate.
