Play Area

Remedial ground works and lighting

We are happy to report that the necessary remedial land engineering work has been completed. While not happy at the additional cost arising from the initial oversight, the community is glad to see the play area back in use. However, problems continue with regard the management of the site.

Regeneration Update

Of the 127 flats to be demolished as part of the regeneration of the estate, only 7 remain occupied. NLC’s Housing Department continue to engage with the tenants in an effort to find them suitable new homes.

The vacated tenements are being demolished as quickly as is practicable. Only now with a few blocks demolished and the grounds cleared are residents beginning to see for themselves the scale of the new development and the importance the new build will have in shaping the future of the estate.

It is hoped the demolishing and clearing of the area will progress apace in the very near future.

Wider Estate Regeneration
The Regeneration Manager tells us that a consultant (Ironside Farrar) have been appointed to carry out an architectural appraisal of several potential development sites in the area.

They will report at the end of April/beginning of May having considered all available geotechnical data, historic information and spoken to significant stakeholders and will make recommendations on potential for future development around community faculties and housing.

Core Path Planning
Forgewood Community Council - North Lanarkshire core path planning

Land Use Consultants (LUC) has recently been commissioned by North Lanarkshire Council to undertake a consultation to inform the development of a draft core path network plan. As you may know, each local authority is required to develop a core path plan by 2008. The aim of the core path plan is to create a network of suitable paths and routes for all fitness levels and abilities.

As part of the consultation we are interested in finding out where people go walking, cycling and horseriding (as one does :-) ) in your area.
To gather information and they would be extremely grateful if you could complete this form. ...click here to download

Paper copies of the questionnaire can also be obtained from local libraries and the North Lanarkshire Council .
